Who we are

Herriot Hospice Homecare is the local hospice care charity supporting people affected by terminal illness across Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Established by local people in Northallerton in 1992, Herriot is the local hospice care charity supporting people affected by terminal illness across the Hambleton and Richmondshire districts of North Yorkshire.

No-one should have to face terminal illness alone – and we’re here alongside local people and their families when they need us most.

Herriot is part of independent charity North Yorkshire Hospice Care, a family of services which include Just ‘B’ and Saint Michael’s Hospice. Together we offer vital hospice care, emotional wellbeing and bereavement support to local communities across North Yorkshire, as well as specialist services regionally and nationally. As an independent charity, the majority of Herriot Hospice Homecare’s care is funded by the generous support of our local communities.

We believe everyone has the right to high quality, personalised care and support, when and where they need it, and our services are free to those who need them, and are funded by donations and support from our communities.

Our district is made up of remote and rural communities, and we reach out to where care is needed, offering a range of services across 1,000 square miles of Hambleton and Richmondshire.

We recognise and support each person as an individual with unique journeys, experiences and needs; and we’re passionate about ensuring everyone can access care that is personalised and responsive to their individual needs, regardless of their age, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or social circumstances, and without discrimination.

Our vision

As an organisation shaped and owned by local people, we believe we have a duty to our community to be courageous and ambitious.

This means setting ourselves a clear vision for the future – and embracing the hard work and dedication needed to achieve this vision.

Our vision is of a community where everyone gets the care they need, want and deserve at the end of their lives.

It is this vision that drives us to do as much as we can, as well as we can, for as long as we can, for as many as we can.

It is this vision that gives the charity – and the communities of action who support us – a shared purpose and mission.

Our mission

Our mission is to support people affected by terminal illness to live and die well.

We are passionate about improving quality of life for people who need us. Because no one should suffer.

We are innovative and collaborative in our approach, and always seek to listen, understand and respond to the needs of the communities we serve.

Today, we find ourselves in a time where there has never been a greater need for hospice care – or a greater need for all of us, who support it.

This means we must continually challenge ourselves to adapt, innovate and respond, while remaining true to the things that make our charity, and the care we provide, so very special.
