Inpatient Stays

Our hospice is led by a consultant in palliative medicine and provides specialist, complex palliative care. We accept referrals for inpatient admissions and offer a short- term place of care to meet these needs, ranging on average from 7-10 days.

These referrals must be made by the treating clinician and cannot be made by an individual or family member. Your treating clinician has access to our full referral criteria, but in brief, you will need to:
· Be over the age of 18 years old
· Have a diagnosed terminal health condition
· Have complex and specialist palliative symptoms or be in the very last days of life where your preferred place of death is the hospice
· Be registered with a GP practice in our area*
*We can, by exception, accept out-of-area patients where there is a specific reason; your treating clinician should contact the hospice in advance of a referral to see whether the reason would meet our policy criterion.

Once a referral comes to our medical team, we assess and prioritise our admissions based on clinical need for access to our services. When you are assessed as a clinical priority and we have a bed available, your treating clinician will be informed to arrange admission if they still consider this to be appropriate.

After your admission, we will start appropriate conversations with you about discharge to ensure that we have a plan in place to support you beyond our walls.
