Skeeby Manor

Step into spring with a visit to the beautiful garden of Skeeby Manor in Richmond.

About the garden

The garden is one and a half acres sheltered by walls and hedges. There is a courtyard, herbaceous and mixed borders, soft fruit, a quarry garden – ‘The Dell’ – with a pond, shrubs, bulbs and perennials, leading to ‘The Glade’, with some newly-planted trees and shrubs, and ‘The Valley’, which was originally the sunken track for the leading out of the stone. There is also a terraced shrub rose garden, ornamental trees and a conservatory/greenhouse.

The garden design and planting would still be easily recognised by Ian and Val’s predecessor, Dr Mary Pease, who lived at The Manor House from 1956 until her death in 1981, but Val has done more planting and created the rose terraces from what had been a semi-derelict area. The old asbestos hen-house/shed from c. 1940, built by Miss Evelyn Pease, has been rebuilt in timber with a cedar shingle-covered roof and is now the tea room and a summerhouse.
