Reaching out in Reeth

An innovative, first-of-its-kind pilot to reimagine social care in the Yorkshire Dales is marking six months of support and 2,500 hours of care.

Herriot in Reeth, which works collaboratively with North Yorkshire County Council and Reeth Medical Centre, sees care assistants provide social care support to individuals living in rural communities in Reeth and surrounding areas, enabling them to remain at home, rather than be admitted to hospital and care facilities.

Volunteers also offer assistance with home-based support, with this element kindly supported by the Gunnerside Estate. Our HOME service continues to provide its existing end of life care services in the area.

Healthcare assistant Tracey Plews said: “Providing support as part of Herriot in Reeth allows me to get to know people and their families, building relationships and becoming part of our community.

"Supporting people to remain at home and live as independently as possible is incredibly rewarding”.
