Thank you Joy
Each year, we hold an annual prize draw to support our fundraising efforts and the first prize in 2017 was £150.
Joy Drury, who lives in Bedale, bought a book of tickets and was delighted when she discovered she had won the first prize.
However, rather than spending the money on herself, she immediately gifted it back to Herriot.
Joy, 63, explained: “My husband Graham died of bowel and liver cancer in 2009 and in his final days he received care from Herriot Hospice Homecare.
“They were only there for a short time, but I was very impressed with the care and support they provided.
“Since then, I have supported the charity whenever I can, whether that’s buying tickets for the draw or donating and buying items from their shops.
“I support various charities but I have always liked the fact they are local, so even though this was the biggest amount I have ever won, I had no hesitation in gifting the money back to them.”
Sarah Harrison, Herriot’s Assistant Fundraiser, said: “We have been touched by Joy’s generosity and would like to thank her for her kind gesture.
“Joy is typical of the supporters we have at Herriot Hospice Homecare; without them we would not be able to deliver our services across Hambleton and Richmondshire.”
