Over the last eight years, our Masham charity shop has been at the heart of the town, valued by local people and playing a significant role in raising awareness of the vital work we do to support those in the area.
Our community healthcare assistants visit Masham day in, day out getting to know people living with terminal illness and making sure they are as comfortable as can be, are able to stay at home in line with their wishes, and their families well-supported. Our Just ‘B’ team is there for the Masham community in times of bereavement and continue to support individuals facing challenges with their mental health.
While our presence in Masham remains very important to us, due to rising costs, we have taken the difficult decision to close our charity shop in the town. Though saddened by this, we’ve been heartened by the love we’ve seen from our Masham community for the shop and our charity- thank you.
As with the hospice sector nationally, we face significant financial challenges in receiving sufficient funding to sustainably provide our services. Currently only 25% of our vital care receives government funding, meaning we must constantly review how we can make best use of our funds to ensure no one in our community faces terminal illness alone.
As 75% of our funding comes from the generosity of our supporters, grants, gifts in wills and so much more, we have a duty to use these funds as responsibly as possible. This means putting our patients and clients first and at the heart of all we do.
We’re extremely grateful for all the tremendous support in Masham- to everyone who has shopped, donated and volunteered with us. We’d love you to continue being part of our next steps, as we grow our care and support, including from our first hospice building in Thirsk. If you’d like to contribute to this, you’re welcome to make a donation.
Help us stay at the heart of the town by making our fundraising bigger than ever. We’re keen to hear from anyone interested in being part of a Masham fundraising group. To express your interest, please email supportercare@herriothh.org.uk or call (01609) 777 413.
We’re having a sale on our stock as we thank you, our local customers, for your support.
Our teams in our Bedale, Thirsk, Stokesley and Richmond shops will continue to warmly welcome you.
