Statement from Herriot Hospice Homecare following North Yorkshire Council motion

This afternoon (Wednesday May 15), North Yorkshire Council has passed a cross-party motion on the vital work that hospices across our area play in caring for people at the end of their lives.

The Council is supporting the call of hospices across the UK, including ourselves, for a more sustainable longer-term funding model for our government funding, in order to plan our vital care of the future and meet the unmet need we know exists right here in Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Across our family of services, which also includes Saint Michael’s Hospice, we receive 25% government funding, with the remainder made up of the remarkable generosity we see daily from our community.

We thank the Council for their support for our sector and ongoing calls for urgent action.
