This Volunteers’ Week we’re celebrating Community, Events and Challenge volunteer, Sandra! We’re thrilled we can finally reveal that Sandra has been shortlisted as a finalist for BBC Radio York’s ‘Make a Difference Awards’ under the ‘Volunteer of the year category’.
Our Fundraising Team nominated Sandra for her incredible fundraising efforts and we couldn’t be more proud that she has reached the final, with the winner to be announced at an awards ceremony that is due to take place in September.
Sandra is a long-standing volunteer at Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just ‘B’ and Saint Michael’s Hospice, having been involved with Saint Michael’s since 2008 and part of the Fundraising Team since 2012. She currently supports the team full-time on a voluntary basis, and has dedicated thousands of hours towards raising vital funds and awareness for Saint Michael’s and its family of services. Sandra’s commitment and warmth make her a truly inspirational and much-loved member of the team, as well as an incredible asset to the community.
Representing Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just ‘B’ and Saint Michael’s, Sandra attends festivals and shows throughout the year and organises street and store collections to increase the charity’s visibility, and share information about local hospice care and bereavement support. In addition to this, she also plans and supports fundraising events, including the Sunrise Walk (a mass participation event), an Open Garden event at Saint Michael’s and Yorkshire’s Biggest Dog Walk!
Alongside her immense involvement in events, Sandra also stewards individuals and groups fundraising for the charity. She always goes above and beyond in everything she does, and strives to give every supporter the very best fundraising experience.
Jessica Williams, Community and Events Fundraiser said;
‘Sandra genuinely cares about helping people reach their fundraising and personal goals, and her gentle, kind and soothing demeanour instantly makes people feel at ease. Through her unwavering determination, Sandra has helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds over the last year alone, and she is a phenomenal volunteer, without whom we truly couldn’t do what we do!’
Feeling inspired? Our fundraising volunteer roles are completely flexible and you can support us for as little as two hours at a time! Some people help out monthly, others at one event a year. Whatever time you can give is always greatly appreciated. Email events@saintmichaelshospice.org to find your perfect role!
