We provide care to terminally ill patients, who wish to remain at home, in the Hambleton and Richmondshire areas of North Yorkshire, a rural area of approximately 1000 square miles. Due to the large rural area that we cover we do not have a hospice building; we care for patients and support their families in their own homes.
We have trained volunteers who stay with patients in order that their carers can have a break. We also have volunteers who are able to provide companionship and support during difficult times and a driving service for people who do not have access to private transport for hospital visits. When a patient is at the end stage of their illness we are able to provide Healthcare Assistants are specially trained in palliative care.
In 2007, we extended our Aromatherapy service and now have three therapists. We also now provide beauty treatments, reflexology and acupuncture.
All of our services are free of charge to the patient and their carers.
This year, we need to raise £200,000 to run and improve our service. This is raised through various fundraising events from car boot sales and coffee mornings, to ‘An Audience with Ann Widdecombe’ and sponsored events such as Bungee jumps and world record attempts!
Donations from individuals, companies and Grant Making Trusts will also hopefully make a significant contribution to this target.
